Hi all. I am looking to buy my first vette. I would like to know if

anyone has driven a 91 and a 92 and could tell me if it is worth the

extra money for the newer engine.

Thanks,

Al

A lot of us had those same questions when we were looking for C4`s

My advice would be to find the "your" perfect car then worry about the

engine...

From my "tests"... lol

The L98 "feels" stronger off the line... but it runs out of breath

pretty quick....and you can feel it. stop breathing.

The LT1 on the other hand sees to be a little weaker off the

line...but it can breath well even at higher rpms...so the car "pulls"

a lot stronger then the L98...

The LT4 engine is a winner in my opinion...Honest it felt stronger

then any of the LS1`s I drove but I could not find a 96 that I liked

at the price I wanted to pay...(same old story)

I ended up (back in 1998 with a Black on Black 6 so 95) with an LT1

engine, and I have absolutely no compaints...except that it was not an

LT4 or a Grand Sport....

Glad you are looking to buy your 1st Corvette....I bet it will not be

your last

ABSOLUTELY -- the LT1 had many improvements, cooling, power, reliability.

The only down side to the 92-93 LT1s is the potential for the water pump to

leak onto the opti-spark. 94 and up fixed that. Just make sure there is NO

water under the water pump when you buy the car.

I changed the water pump on my 92 at about 88,000 miles because it was

leaking onto the serpentine belt and spraying a little water out the side of

the car. The recommendation is to replace the opti-spark at that time and

get the update. I ignored that, covered the opti-spark VERY WELL and

replaced the pump. 130,000 and no problem.

I would spring for a 94, depending on price difference and what you want to

pay. 92s are a bargain.
