Hi group:

I have an 88 conv. that is suddenly running strange, starts

right up and runs at about 900rpm for about 2 secs. then

dies. It will do this a couple of times, then it will start and

run at around 6 to 900 rpm (hunts) with a problem taking

any throttle until about 1/3 throttle, then will take off.

as it warms up the problem seems to get a little better but

it is never right, with a flat spot at small throttle openings.

No light or codes associated with this, thinking maybe

coil (there are occasional backfires when trying to give it

more throttle).

Any thoughts on diagnosis or similar problems greatly

appreciated!

TIA Dave G.

I tried to find a vacuum leak with propane but no success,

no audible hiss either, would the throttle pos. throw an alarm?

I checked the plugs and they look ok, at night I can see no

arcs in the ignition. don`t know how to test the coil in the cap

except to replace. Normally I would suspect a #32 egr problem

as this has some of the earmarks but again no code or svc eng

light. Well maybe try to put a cap and coil on tomorrow. any other ideas

appreciated!

TIA Dave G.
